Mission & Course Details
The Biochemistry curriculum is on par with reputed universities in India. It not only includes classical biochemistry topics like Metabolism, Cytology, Immunology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology but also includes modern emerging topics like Bioinformatics, Nanotechnology and Stem cell technology.
M.Sc Biochemistry is a scheduled 2year course, right from the year 1997 – 2002 it was under the year wise scheme. In the year 2003 the course was bifurcated into semester mode, comprising 4 semesters for 2 years.

The Department of Biochemistry has an yearly intake of 27 students (Management quota:3), through the Acharya Nagarjuna University, solely based on merit. Our former students are well placed, either doing research abroad or in reputed research institutes, colleges or pharmaceutical industry in India.The Biochemistry Department is designated as a research centre and all its faculty are actively involved in research. The faculty’s activities are not just limited to the classroom and laboratory but they also participate actively in educating the public about Science topics through the Media.
The department has achieved a research centre status in the year 2004 and is fully equipped to meet the research needs of the scholars. The research facility is also extended for faculty members in the department.

Researches :
The department possess highly equipped laboratories with the entire basic infrastructure. All the faculty are active in research and registered in various universities for Ph.D. The students are constantly encouraged to undertake projects and many of them have undertaken projects at reputed institutes like BARC, IICT, CCMB and the outgoing students of 1997 and 2003 have secured CSIR and ICMR fellowships. The Department is headed by Dr.Meeta Rani, a specialist in Bioinformatics.
Notifications,Placements & Announcements
The department has a high record for placement of students. So far out of the 144 outgoing students, 12 are in Research and development sector of various pharmaceutical companies in A.P, 25 are in teaching at both graduate and post graduate levels and 7 of them are persuing their M.S. abroad.
