Department of Bio-Technology, Post Graduation Department of Bio-Technology was started in the year 2006-07.clickHere for our Proffessional team.
The Department of Biotechnology offers interdisciplinary two year M.Sc. degree course in Biotechnology on self-finance basis and Ph.D. degree under extramural research. All the basic required infrastructural facilities for conducting teaching and research programmes of Biotechnology have been developed in this department.
Facilities
The department procured a vast collection of books about 400 for the library facility at a cost of nearly Rs.1,50,000.The department having all the facilities, Labs, Instruments and Equiments worth of 1 Crore i.e. Autoclaves, Blotting and sequencing units, Colony counters, Colorimeters, Computers, Deep freezer, Drybath, Ligation bath, Electronic balances, Electrophoretic chromatographic units, Fraction collector, Heaters, High-speed refrigerated centrifuge, Incubators, Laminar flow hoods, LCD projector, Microfuge, Microscopes, Ovens, Overhead Projectors, PCR machine, pH meters, Rocker, Shakers, Slide Projector, Stirrers, Ultra filtration units, UV-transilluminators, UV-visible Spectrophotometer.
The Department of BioTechnology which is present in a three steired Life Sciences Block of PG Section,Montessori Mahila Kalaasala,Vijayawada has adequate space and all the necessary infrastructural facilities as per the norms of the A.P State Council and Acharya Nagarjuna University.The class Room and Lab Space of the Department is arranged as per the university standards.
Infrastructure
• Two separate classrooms for M.Sc. previous and final year students with facilities for audio-visual aids. • Two separate laboratories for M.Sc. previous and final year students with required workbenches, chemical, apparatus , instruments and other facilities for practical lab work • Instruments room with all basic instruments and special air-conditioned annex for sophisticated equipment. • Separate sterile rooms for inoculation and culturing of Microbial, Plant and Animal tissues and organisms. • A separate computer lab with Internet connection. • Rooms for office, stores, coordinator and faculty.
Research Projects
Research Projects completed.• CSIR - SRF - cost Rs. 1.5 laks. Title of the project : Floristic and Resources Survey of Eastern Ghats, India • DST – SERC Young Scientist Major Research Project (2004 -06) Rs.10.92 lakh.• Title of the project: Domestication of wild Relatives of Cultivated Legumes for Food and Agriculture.
Ongoing Research Projects .• CSIR - Major Research Project Cost – Rs.11 lakh- Title of the project: Micropropagation and Bioprospecting of two RED listed Potent Medicinal Asclepiadaceous Members - Ceropegia spiralis and Ceropegia pusilla”.(2007-2009)
